what’s next? whitesnake day? hmm….awesome….

The Mayor of Los Angeles has declared today, July 31st, “Mötley Crüe Saints of Los Angeles Day” in the California city.

The band will mark the occasion by joining a partnership with the Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd. to give back to local artists. So why are Motley Crue getting their own day? Anyone who’s read about the band’s debauch exploits in their biography The Dirt — which the band drew from for their new album Saints of Los Angeles — can attest to how much venereal diseases the band has contributed to the City of Angels.

Tommy Lee and the gang better not enjoy Crüe Day that much, however, as the band is scheduled to play a concert in Phoenix, Arizona tonight.

How will YOU be celebrating “Mötley Crüe Saints of Los Angeles Day?”  I plan on decorating a Motley Crue holiday tree with Jack Daniels and fake boobies!

miley turns down katy perry’s steamy offer

Miley Cyrus says there’s no way she’s going to be locking lips with Katy Perry at this Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards.

The 23-year-old “I Kissed a Girl” hitmaker recently said in an interview that she was hoping to snag a same-sex smooch onstage with the 15-year-old Cyrus in the spirit of the infamous Madonna-Britney Spears kiss.

“No thanks,” the Hannah Montana star and YouTube scrapper said. “She sang on my record. So I think she’s kind of getting back at me, because she was doing harmonies and backgrounds.”

Oh honey, you WISH you had the staying power of Katy Perry!

This is going to be the hottness!

With Amy Winehouse long out of commission, Alicia Keys has signed on to lend her sultry, soulful pipes to the new theme song being readied for the upcoming James Bond installment, Quantum of Solace.

She’ll be partnering with the genius that is Jack White!

Jack, who wrote and produced the tune, called “Another Way to Die,” will also play drums. The film’s soundtrack is due out Oct. 28, while the movie itself, the second 007 flick featuring hunky blond Bond Daniel Craig, hits theaters Nov. 7.

I’m more amped about the song than the movie! I’m such a fan of Alicia Keys and Jack White individually, I can’t wait to hear what such talents will sound like together!

land of talk and sebastien grainger sign with saddle creek

Land of Talk Sebastien Grainger

Omaha-based record label, Saddle Creek, just keeps getting better and better. Not only did Saddle Creek sign our friends in Tokyo Police Club a few months ago, but we now have news that they recently signed Canadian indie-rock trio, Land of Talk, as well as Sebastian Grainger.

Land of Talk comes to us from Montreal, Quebec, and consists of singer/guitarist Elizabeth Powell, along with bassist Chris McCarron, and drummer Eric Thibodeau. Thibodeau replaced former drummer Bucky Wheaton in May of 2007.

Their new debut full-length album “Some Are Lakes,” is set to be released in the U.K. on October 6 and in North America/Canada on October 7. The album was recorded in Montreal with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and is the follow up to their 2006 EP “Applause Cheer Boo Hiss.”

Sebastien Grainger, who hails from Mississauga, Ontario, is best known as being the former lead singer and drummer of the now defunct duo, Death From Above 1979. Grainger is currently working on an album under the name Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains, but if you’re too impatient to wait for its release, check out his EP “American Names.”

I swear, all the best bands and musicians are coming from Canada these days. They must be putting something in the water up there…
