trick-or-treat from the boss
trick-or-treat from the boss
Bruce Springsteen has a Halloween treat for all his fans, posting a new song “A Night with the Jersey Devil” as a free download.
“If you grew up in central or south Jersey, you grew up with the ‘Jersey Devil.’ Here’s a little musical Halloween treat. Have fun,” Springsteen says in a handwritten note on his website. Springsteen’s Halloween was slightly dampened earlier in the week when he revealed that his Jersey home wouldn’t have its usual bombastic display due to the “catastrophic success” it had in the neighborhood, but this song more than makes up for it.
In case you’re not up on your Garden State folklore, the Jersey Devil is a strange, winged creature that dates back to the 1800s and supposedly inhabits the state’s Pine Barrens region.

the music of “true blood”
the music of “true blood”
In honor of this, one of my favorite holidays, I’m posting all things dark and goulish.
First up, the music of HBO’s True Blood, a brilliantly sexy series created by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under). True Blood is set in Bon Temps, Louisiana, where vampires have “come out of the coffin”–revealing that they really do exist and want to be part of mainstream society.
True Blood is a great show that’s big on intrigue and more than a little naughty. A large part of the show’s enjoyability is the music. The music in the show really sets the scene and captures the whole atmosphere and mythology that make up the context of True Blood.
Check out the opening credits of True Blood with the killer theme song “Bad Things” by Jace Everett! Can’t get this song out of my head!
And check out some other tunes featured on the show:

will the jackson 5 actually reunite?
will the jackson 5 actually reunite?
Are the Jackson 5 finally reuniting? According to Jermaine Jackson, 2009 is the year the family finally gets together again. “This has been a long time coming for the Jackson family to get back together,” Jermaine told the Australian press.
“We’re in the studio, we’re planning on being out there next year.” Of course, this isn’t the first time a non-Michael Jackson has touted a reunion that never happened. Even last month, the entire Jackson clan couldn’t arrange to all be on hand to accept their BMI lifetime achievement award, as Michael missed the ceremony. Asked where the most famous Jackson could be, Marlon responded “I don’t know. I think he’s in Egypt riding a camel or something.”
If by some miracle the Jacksons do reunite for a new album, it would be the family’s first complete album together since 1984’s Victory.

chris cornell’s “ground zero”
chris cornell’s “ground zero”
Chris Cornell just realized the state of his career…
So the video for Chris Cornell’s “Ground Zero,” is obviously a commercial for something else. The “something else” in this equation is the ABC show Life On Mars.
The video stars Chris Cornell (and Jason O’Mara) walking around NYC, 1973. The show Life On Mars stars Harvey Keitel and O’Mara walking around NYC, 1973. The concept: O’Mara, a New York City homicide detective who suddenly finds himself inexplicably transported from 2008 to 1973, which is why we see him staring at the World Trade Center in disbelief. (In a video for a song called “Ground Zero,” remember.)
Just to catch you up: the song is off the album Scream, a collaboration with hip-hop mogul Timbaland and it’s attached to a cop drama on ABC. Wait…are we still talking about CHRIS CORNELL?!?!

christopher nolan sounds off on potential third “batman”
christopher nolan sounds off on potential third “batman”
Is Christopher Nolan going to direct the next Batman movie?
Since his record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight” opened this summer, there has been rampant speculation over the next film in the franchise. Internet gossip has spread like wildfire over who might star in the third, with possibilities including Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and even Cher.
To put these rumors to rest, the notoriously tight-lipped director opened up in rare interview with the Los Angeles Times, where he hinted that he might not return for a third film:
Well… let me think how to put this. There are two things to be said. One is the emphasis on story. What’s the story? Is there a story that’s going to keep me emotionally invested for the couple of years that it will take to make another one? That’s the overriding question. On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: How many good third movies in a franchise can people name? [Laughs.] At the same time, in taking on the second one, we had the challenge of trying to make a great second movie, and there haven’t been too many of those either.
Really and in truth, I only deal with one film at a time. I find myself sort of protesting this issue a lot. We’ve never attempted to save anything for a sequel or set up anything for a sequel.
