where my peeps at???

where my peeps at???

It’s that time of year again, Shloggers! Spring has sprung (except in Western PA where it will remain cloudy with a chance of snow till around mid-May), and if you’re anything like me, be concerned you’ll be looking eagerly into your Easter basket come Sunday morning for the site of the most ridiculously and deliciously suger-loaded confection ever known to man…the amazing PEEPS!

In celebration of those colorful marshmallow yum-yums, I’ve compiled a small list of Peep lore that you might find interesting…

Peeps are produced by Just Born, a candy manufacturer based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Peeps were introduced in 1953 by Russian immigrant, Sam Born.

Back in 1953, when the peeps were made by hand it took 27 hours to make one marshmallow peep.

The messy and largely self-entertaining game, “Peeps Jousting” is played with a microwave oven. One takes two Peeps, and licks the right-hand side of each until sticky. A toothpick is thereby adhered to each Peep, pointing forward like a jousting lance. The Peeps are then set in a microwave, squared off against one another, and heated up. As they expand, the toothpick lances thrust toward each opponent, and the winner is the one that does not pop and deflate (or fizzle and die).

The Smith College Science Fiction and Fantasy Society has been holding an annual spring Peep slaughter since 1981. Peeps are “massacred” in ways ranging from being flushed down the toilet to be given Viking funerals on the campus pond.

Now you’ve been schooled on the wonders of living la vida Peeps. I’m proud to be a Peep-eater!

Check out the HIGHlarious video of the movie Jaws…reenacted using Peeps!

Dude…peep jousting….why didn’t we think of that? I just want to share a peep story. A few years ago at mu office a community Easter Basket. This basket stayed in the office for weeks until it was finally picked over and all of the yucky candy was left. There…in the pink crinkled plastic grass sat a one eyed yellow peep. The night shift supervisor (at the time) just decided one night to whip this cinder block of a peep at a fellow co worker and smacked her in the side of the face with it leaving a red mark. We then proceeded to have a peep toss around the office. This little peep flew hither and yon sprinkling sugar like pixie dust over the cubicles. Until I finally got it…took a sharpie…gave it an eye patch and drew a skull and cross bones on its chest and put it in my locker as THE PIRATE PEEP. 2 wks later a friend at the office made me a Popsicle ship to sail. Long story short….that peep lived in my locker having high seas adventures for 2 years….until I tried to take it home and it melted in mm trunk….now we have a little picture of it as a memorial on my desk…VIVA LA PIRATE PEEP!! (at work….so bored….help)
