Create a Discount Coupon

Welcome to our new ShowClix How-To series! Each week, our team will share a simple walkthrough of one of their favorite features to help you get the most out of your ShowClix account.

Today we’re going to learn how to create a promo code, or coupon, for one of your events.

Even with a small discount, coupons are a great way to attract potential new customers, incentivize indecisive customers to finally make that ticket purchase, and track the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns.

Estimated time: 5 minutes

Find the coupon creation tool.

Visit the Manage section and click Add Coupon.

Edit coupon details.

First, you’ll need to make sure the Coupon Type is set to Discount. Next, enter an internal name for the coupon. You’ll want to pick something short and discrete, which will make it easier to find later when you’re running reports.

Now you’ll enter a simple, memorable, or totally random coupon code, up to 15 characters. Finally, determine the amount of your discount. You can choose from variable percentage discounts (e.g. “10% off”) or fixed amount (e.g. “$2.00 off”) discounts.

Once your coupon details are set, click Save and Assign to move on to the coupon assignment menu.

Assign your coupon.

Now you can choose whether to apply this coupon to all events (“globally”) or assign it to a specific event. For this tutorial, we’ll assign it to all price levels for a specific event. Click Add Events and find your event in the list. Click Make Selection. Set a Use Limit to determine how many times the coupon will be accepted.

Click Yes on the Taggable option, and you’ll be able to share a link that automatically applies the coupon to a customer’s order, when the event listing is reached via that link. Just add “/tag/” and the coupon code to the end of your event listing’s URL. For example: http://www.showclix.com/yourawesomeevent/tag/VIP10

Finally, set an acceptable start/end date and time for the coupon. You will probably want to mention these times anywhere you promote the discount.

Promote your coupon.

Your coupon is ready. Now get out there and tell people about it!

Post a link to your event on Facebook and Twitter. Don’t forget to tell people about the coupon code! You’ll also want to specify when the coupon code is active, as determined by your Start Date. If you set your coupon to Taggable, you will also be able to monitor the number of tickets sold via your tagged event link in the Tracking Tags menu.
