ShowClix was built by fans of live events, so it should come as no surprise that we get out there and enjoy as many live experiences as we can. From time to time, we’re asking our team members to share stories from their favorite events right here on the ShowClix Blog. Welcome to the ShowClix Fan Journal!
The Fourth of July is usually commemorated with fireworks, hotdogs, and domestic beer, but a sold-out Modest Mouse and Brand New show was the highlight of this past Independence Day Weekend in Pittsburgh. Both bands are similar in their ability to achieve vast popularity without surrendering their followers who’ve been there since their first EPs, which is no easy feat. Stage AE, adjacent to the Allegheny River, was packed to the brim with the bands’ loyal legion of fans, including some of the ShowClix team. The combo of Modest Mouse and Brand New in a sold-out venue made for a visceral concert experience.
Here are some of our favorite takes from ShowClix team members that were lucky enough to be there:
Jarrett Hawrylak – Senior Production Support Engineer
Modest Mouse’s first three albums have resonated with me since I first heard “Cowboy Dan” in college. In fact, The Moon & Antarctica may be in the top 20 of my most listened albums. The show at Stage AE saw mostly newer songs on the setlist, but when the first notes of “Doin’ the Cockroach” were played, I was immediately reminded of why I came to love the band in the first place.
Ashley Ranich – Marketing Services Intern
Brand New is known to do little from their first album, Your Favorite Weapon, but it was an important album to me growing up. I checked the previous setlists and figured they wouldn’t play anything from it, but “Soco Amaretto Lime” opened their encore. Jesse Lacey singing “You’re just jealous ‘cause we’re young and in love,” along a chanting crowd made for a perfect ending.
David Kennedy – Customer Care Representative
My friend, Mikaela, and I went to the Brand New/Modest Mouse show together. She is visiting from Texas and we don’t get to see each other much. Brand New has always been her favorite band and this was her first time seeing them (plus they played Soco – I mean, come on, that’s awesome), so this was definitely a night we won’t forget!
Kristy Rakes – Sales
I have been to more live shows than I can count and can honestly say that Modest Mouse and Brand New are two of the very best! I was beyond excited to hear that they were touring together again this year, so I waited in a ticketing queue all day when tickets were released to make sure I did not miss out. Any true music fan can tell you that every live show is a unique experience, especially those of us who are obsessed with Modest Mouse and Brand New. They never disappoint, that’s for sure!
