Road Journal: Upstream Music Fest + Summit, BookCon, and Kansas City PrideFest
David Kennedy
Our Event Ops team hit the road last week, working on-site at some of this season’s most highly-anticipated events! Read on for our recaps of the unforgettable experiences we had at Upstream Music Fest + Summit, BookCon, and Kansas City PrideFest.
Upstream Music Fest + Summit – Andrew Toilolo, Client Success Manager
This past weekend I had the pleasure of supporting our partners at Upstream Music Fest + Summit on-site at their event in Seattle, WA. Upstream offered amazing music industry and festival vibes across their event site by the ocean, filled with eye-opening industry panels, secret shows, and big-name headliners. The ShowClix team was handling all ticket sales, and on-site will call. We helped run multiple box offices across the city. Offering something for fans of hip hop, indie rock, EDM and everything in between, Upstream Music Fest + Summit 2018 was an incredible festival experience, and we’re certainly not alone in looking forward to next year already!
BookCon – Christie Stapf, Marketing Specialist
Spoiler Alert! BookCon is AWESOME! I headed to NYC last weekend to join my fellow book fanatics at BookCon 2018, and wow was it fun! While there, I attended some amazing panels including The Poetry Connection: Stories from Today’s Most Popular Poets and Power Moves: Victoria Aveyard, Kendare Blake, Tahereh Mafi, and Melissa De La Cruz, made new friends, and had a few very memorable moments with some of my favorite authors including Holly Black, A. G. Gaughen, and P.C. Cast. I even managed to pick up a few pre-releases to read on my way back to the burgh!
What I didn’t know was that BookCon was helping Harry Potter celebrate its 20th anniversary! Witches and wizards from all over the world came to celebrate and were excited to hop on the famous “Nimbus 2000” magic broom to snap a few photos.
All in all, it was a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait for my next chance to attend!
Kansas City PrideFest – Taylor Gustafson, Client Success Manager
This past weekend I traveled to Kansas City to help support Kansas City PrideFest 2018. This was exciting for me, not only because I am passionate about LGBTQ rights, but also because I am a KC native! The event was a beautiful celebration of pride and diversity for the Kansas City community. Gathered at Riverfront Park were many members of the community, along with food vendors, local businesses, carnival rides, and a stage featuring local performers. I was so thankful for the opportunity to be on-site helping the event! The organizers of the event utilized our box office application at point-of-sale stations on-site for entry, bar sales, and carnival rides. Selling all of their products through one system allowed for easy reporting and quick settlements at the end of the night. I was happy to hear from the event organizers that there were rarely any wait times for attendees thanks to our streamlined solutions cutting down on unnecessary queuing. It was a great weekend, and I’m sure 2019 will go just as well!
