This week we are covering three highly anticipated events: Millvale Brew Festival, Steel City Con, and Brown County Fair. Read on to learn more about our team’s favorite moments and event highlights below!
Millvale Brew Festival – Ryan Hurst
Celebrating it’s 10th Annual Year, Millvale and The Millvale Community Development Corporation hosted their annual Brew Festival at Millvale Riverfront Park, located on the shores of Allegheny River in Pittsburgh.
This marked my 5th year involved with the festival, where myself and five others operated the box office for on-site purchases as well as the scanning of both general admission and VIBD (very important beer drinker) guests.
There are so many things I love about being involved with this smaller, hometown event. Just minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, the festival featured two, 3 hour sessions of live music, delicious local BBQ and beer offerings from more than 180 craft, micro, nano and specialty breweries from all around the region and country. Because of it’s unique riverfront location, event organizers gave away free event posters to those customers who biked or kayaked to the festival. Only in Pittsburgh!
Proceeds helped support the Nonprofit Millvale Borough Development Corporation which contributes to stabilize, revitalize, and rejuvenate Millvale neighborhoods, through the development of housing, and local businesses.
We’re fortunate to be involved with such an amazing event surrounded by such a wonderful community.

Steel City Con – Christie Stapf
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Steel City Con, a comic con dedicated to fans of all things comics, toys, TV and film celebrities. Mega fans (myself included) from the across the area and beyond joined together to celebrate some of our favorite TV shows and movies like Harry Potter, Suicide Squad, The Walking Dead, Star Trek, and more!
Attendees didn’t have a moment to spare with panels happening all weekend long, hundreds of vendors offering exclusive event merchandise, cosplay contests, and snapping a photo with their favorite celebs.
It was a childhood dream come true to come face-to-face with some of my favorite actors and actresses like Christopher Lloyd (Clue and Back to the Future), Tom Felton (Harry Potter), and of course the very beautiful Kristy Swanson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)! Many fans in attendance had the opportunity to take photo ops, hear behind the scenes stories, and ask a question or two. One lucky mega fan was even serenaded Happy Birthday by Tom himself!
All-in-all it was a fabulous event, and I’m looking forward to the next Steel City Con happening December 9-11, 2016.
Brown County Fair – Amy Kline
I joined the Brown County Fair crew in Aberdeen, South Dakota for the start of this week long action-packed event. Hosted once a year in August, Brown County Fair has something for everyone including live concerts featuring Jake Owen, Dustin Lynch, and MercyMe, The Dacotah Stampede Rodeo, carnival games and rides, and a full throttle Total Destruction-Demolition Derby.
I was stationed at The Dacotah Stampede Rodeo, which is definitely something you don’t see everyday. I was amazed at the coordination and dedication that all the riders showed as well as the enthusiasm of all the fans in attendance.
If you’re looking for a great day with the family or a fun night out with friends, then you should check out the rest of Brown County Fair happening now through August 21st! Yeehaw!
