Japanese anime, American animation, comics, video games, cosplay: what do all those things have in common? They’ll all be featured at MomoCon May 24-27 at the Georgia World Congress Center! Born from a campus-based convention created by Georgia Tech’s anime club, MomoCon has become the fastest growing all-ages convention in the country. From parents and children, to the most dedicated old-schoolers, MomoCon is the perfect convention for everyone! Fans will get to celebrate their passions with like-minded peers, meet their favorite celebrities, and so much more.
Check out some of the awesome activities available at this year’s MomoCon!
Meet Your Favorite Celebrities
This con has an incredible lineup of special guests, all of whom are available for autograph sessions! Joining MomoCon 2018’s guest list will be several international guests, including Goichi Suda, perhaps best known as Suda51 and for making No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw and others. Continuing the international focus will be two voices from Blizzard’s Overwatch: joining from France is Chloé Hollings, voice of Widowmaker, and from China is Zhang Yu, voice of Mei. Plus, meet screen and voice actor Bex Taylor-Klaus, who played Bullet on AMC’s The Killing, Sin on CW’s Arrow, and voiced Pidge on Dreamworks’s highly acclaimed reboot of Voltron: Legendary Defender! Then, chat with voice actor Richard Epcar, who has voiced over 500 characters in games, animation, and anime, and is best known as the voice of Batou in Ghost in the Shell.
Attend Panels for Days
Choose from over a hundred exciting, unique panels all weekend long to find your niche at this year’s MomoCon. For example, with over a dozen games in the franchise, only true Kingdom Hearts fans will be able to prove their knowledge and come out victorious in the game show, Kingdom Hearts: Whose Line is it. Or, you can take your cosplay to the next level with Cosplay Tips and Tricks Q&A, where you’ll learn about everything from 3D printing and modeling, to foam smithing, to armor making, to casting and molding. For the cosplay aficionado in your life, you can’t miss the cosplay track room with more than 35 hours of content. Of course don’t worry if you can’t make the panels, as plenty of MomoCon attendees will be bringing their best cosplay to show off!
MomoCon also brings out the companies and creative talent behind your favorite anime and video games for special panels and exhibitions, featuring official panels hosted by Blizzard, Studio Trigger, Suda51, Microsoft@ID, Warren Spector, and many more!
Supporting the Community
MomoCon is dedicated to doing its part to help make the world a better place, which is why there’s a full Charity Row at every con, with organizations like Extra Life for Kids, St. Judes, and the 501ST Legion, which raises money for the Boys and Girls Club of Atlanta, the main partner charity organization for MomoCon 2018. In support of this, there will be a limited edition pin sold at this year’s MomoCon with proceeds directly benefiting the Boys and Girls Club charity initiative. MomoCon also works to provide amazing one-of-a-kind items for Desert Bus for Hope’s charity efforts for Child’s Play. Started in 2007 to combine video games and tedium to benefit charity, this organization is the most successful charity gaming marathon in the world. Each year, MomoCon provides exclusive items to be auctioned off for Desert Bus, so you can bid on limited edition signed games, figures, and items from featured guests, all in the name of charity!
Get on Cloud 9 with 9 Live Performances
There’s nothing better than jamming out to live music, which is why MomoCon is bringing you not one, not two, but nine different concerts for 2018! Fans will have their pick of great sets, like a Live Performance AMV Concert with Youtubers Jonathan Young, Caleb Hyles, and Adriana Figueroa (Adrisaurus). Or a performance from Brent Black “Brentalfloss,” who is best known as the creator of the “With Lyrics” YouTube series. Or the sixth-annual Disney Singing Contest Finals, where a host of singers compete for fabulous prizes by singing their favorite Disney songs.
Get Your Game On
MomoCon features the Southeast’s largest gaming hall, with more than 180,000 sq ft of games! There’ll be board games, card games, card tournaments, open PC games and tournaments, free to play arcade machines from Japan, as well as the classic arcade and pinball cabinets, and four e-sport stages with top players from around the world competing for more than $15,000 in cash prizes. For the more casual competitor, the event also features open and free hourly events where attendees can put their Mario Kart skills to the test, or play through their favorite classic speedruns from the SNES era. Not to mention, the game hall is open 24 hours during MomoCon! Plus, for the third year running, Robot Battles is back at MomoCon for a two-day robotic combat competition. Many will enter, but only one will emerge victorious!
