From October 2018 to January 2019, the British Library exhibition, Harry Potter: A History of Magic will be hosted by the New-York Historical Society, New York’s oldest museum. Journey to where myth and magic began, and have your wands at the ready!
The Harry Potter book series has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide, and has been published in over 80 languages. This September marks the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone‘s initial American publication, and the world is ready to celebrate this incredible milestone! With Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opening on Broadway, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’s highly anticipated release, and, of course, the Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition opening, the Wizarding World will have one of its busiest years ever in the US.
Embodying the traditions of magic and folklore found within the world of Harry Potter, this exciting exhibition unveils rare books, manuscripts, and magical objects from the collections of the British Library, New-York Historical Society, Scholastic, Bloomsbury, and other special collections. Visitors can explore the subjects students studied at Hogwarts, and can even see original drafts and drawings by illustrators Mary GrandPré, Jim Kay, and Brian Selznick.
From art and drawings to books, and beyond, visitors will get to explore magic and the Wizarding World in brand new ways. The items on display will also include special contributions from J.K. Rowling’s own archives, such as handwritten notes and sketches.
