Event Spotlight - Going Attractions: The Definitive Story of the Movie Palace

Attention movie buffs: clear your calendars, because you won’t want to miss this exciting preview event! On Wednesday, June 28, The Theatre Historical Society of America is hosting an exclusive preview of Going Attractions: The Definitive Story of the Movie Palace at Los Angeles’ Million Dollar Theatre.

The Theatre Historical Society of America (THS) celebrates, documents, and promotes the architectural, cultural, and social relevance of America’s historic theatres. THS not only archives 100,000+ items that document over 18,000 theatres in America, but also produces high quality books and magazines that feature images and materials from the archives.

The Going Attractions preview falls right in the middle of the week-long Conclave Theatre Tour, which offers a silent auction, theatre tours, and a variety of activities every night. The tour is being held in Los Angeles since it is internationally recognized as the center of the film industry and historic theatres. These gloriously restored venues are sure to dazzle, while the gems awaiting restoration will inspire.

Director April Wright’s first documentary, Going Attractions: The Definitive Story of the American Drive-in Movie, was featured on NPR, BBC World News, USA Today, and many more. It was a major success for a theatrically released documentary, and currently ranks as #110 of top movies about the world of motion pictures.

Wright’s highly anticipated second feature-length documentary, Going Attractions: The Definitive Story of the Movie Palace, details the evolution of the American movie experience throughout its hundred-plus-year history. The film features interviews with eleven prominent names in the film industry, like film critic and historian Leonard Maltin, and New York abandoned theatres photographer Matt Lambros. The best part? The preview will be held in the Million Dollar Theatre, a historic movie palace in its own right, featuring elegant architecture reminiscent of the early days of cinema.

Just like its predecessor, Going Attractions is sure to be a hit. This special event is open to the public for only $25 admission. So what are you waiting for? Get your tickets today!
