Event Spotlight: Philadelphia Flower Show 2019

The nation’s largest and longest-running horticultural event, The Philadelphia Flower Show, is ready to bloom for another vibrant year this March! Created by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), this show features stunning displays by the world’s premier floral and landscape designers. Honored as the best event in the world by the International Festivals & Events Association, The Philadelphia Flower Show hosts world-renowned competitions and special events including artistic floral arranging, gardening presentations and demonstrations, and the citywide Bloom Philly pre-Show celebration.

PHS has a longstanding commitment to use horticulture to create beautiful, healthy and sustainable communities. The work of PHS brings together people from diverse backgrounds to advance social equity, environmental sustainability, and urban livability through the unifying power of horticulture. Proceeds from the Flower Show benefit these initiatives, which have become national models of urban greening. In fact, this year’s theme, “Flower Power,” will pay tribute to the huge impact flowers have on our lives.

As a Philadelphia Flower Show attendee, you’ll experience ten acres of show floor, filled with the world’s leading floral and garden designers exploring how flowers transcend cultures and borders. Full of stunning landscapes, vibrant gardens, and breathtaking floral displays, the Flower Show’s imaginative exhibits bring to life ideas of community, healing, peace, transformation, and hope.

An especially exciting event on 2019’s roster is the Florists’ Transworld Delivery (FTD) World Cup. As one of the world’s most prestigious floral design competitions, which hasn’t been held in the United States since 1985, the FTD World Cup brings together the world’s top floral designers for a thrilling design competition. For three days, the designers will fashion larger-than-life floral creations as they compete for the title of Interflora World Cup champion.

During this intense competition, you’ll get the chance to learn how to take your floral design skills to the next level. The Philadelphia Flower Show will be hosting two technical workshops and an evening demonstration led by past and present FTD World Cup competitors. In the floral demonstration, Floral Fantasia, five FTD World Cup competitors will dazzle the audience with their own floral piece and describe the techniques used for its creation. Join Hiroto Inoue’s workshop, Paper Sculptures as Containers, to learn and practice the incredible feat of creating paper containers. Or participate in The Constructed Bouquet with with Frédéric Dupré, where he guides you through the hand-tied bouquet with an armature, where the flower provides a focal point and signature to your work.

This is just a whiff of what you can expect at this year’s Philadelphia Flower Show. There’s no better place for flower professionals and hobbyists alike, so get your tickets today!

“We are thrilled to host the FTD World Cup and this group of inspiring, talented competitors at the Philadelphia Flower Show. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and is a wonderful example of the power that flowers have to bring people from different cultures and backgrounds together. Our lineup of brilliant Flower Show exhibit designers will capture how flowers influence the way we feel, think and act in personal and global ways.” – Sam Lemheney, PHS Chief of Shows & Events
