From sampling delicious brews at Millvale Brew Fest, to rocking out at Anisong World Matsuri, to rooting for our favorite cosplayers at Steel City Con, our team had another exciting weekend for the history books!
Anisong World Matsuri – Jessica Merritt
This past weekend I had the pleasure of selling tickets to the Anisong World Matsuri concerts taking place Friday and Saturday night in Washington D.C. As I arrived on Thursday for setup, there were people everywhere in their cosplay outfits ready to go for the weekend! The team at Anisong made sure I had everything we needed to make sure this weekend’s events ran as smooth as possible.
When it came time for the shows, the crowd started lining up early to make sure they didn’t miss any of the action. I helped to manage check-in as the main events staff scanned everyone into the show. The concerts were loud and filled with excitement as the crowd sang along to all their favorite songs from T.M.R., Jam Project, Flow, and Yousei Teikoku. The main events staff was awesome to work with as they were able to handle everything flawlessly for the two concerts.
Millvale Brew Fest – Lindsay Biondy
This past Saturday I helped with admissions for Millvale Brew Fest, the first event I’ve worked for ShowClix. Our team worked closely with volunteers, and together we scanned in every attendee quickly, then had some time to enjoy the festival ourselves. It was held at Millvale Riverfront Park, so everyone was meandering around, sipping beer, walking their dogs. Seriously, I got to pet so. Many. Dogs. Plus, as a senior in college, spending four hours at a beer festival with almost 200 different beers to sample was a dream come true. This is definitely an event I’ll be sure to attend next year.
Steel City Con – Christina Lee
This past weekend, I attended Steel City Con at the Monroeville Convention Center. It’s one of the largest fandom events in the country, with over 100,000 square feet of convention space and a plethora of vendors, artists, and celebrity guests. This month’s Steel City Con celebrity guests included Burt Reynolds,Tara Reid, Susan Olsen, and Josh McDermitt.
Unfortunately, I was too busy to meet any of the celebrities because I was checking out the Cosplay Contest! Hosted by local DJ and personality, Zombo, there were over 70 participants cosplaying this year. It was very entertaining to see each of them walk onto the stage and perform as their characters. My personal favorite costumes included a couple dressed up as Bunsen and Beaker from “The Muppets”, a group dressed up as the family from “Bob’s Burgers”, and a woman dressed up as the Log Lady from “Twin Peaks”. Overall, I was very impressed by the amount of people who participated and the creativity of the costumes.
If you’re FOMOing over this past weekend’s event, don’t fret – Steel City Con will be back at the Monroeville Convention Center this December 8 – 10th. Get your tickets now!
