Attending events is what we love to do, and last weekend’s were some for the history books. Our team partied with the best at the inaugural ComplexCon, hopped on a ferris wheel overlooking thousands of families enjoying the sold out LEGO KidsFest event, and experienced an acclaimed lecture series while exploring special exhibits throughout SOFA Expo.
Check out our teams’ recaps and awesome photos below!
ComplexCon – Tara Friel
ComplexCon is a brand new convention/ festival that brings together the lifestyle of Complex Magazine, which is art, music, fashion and pop culture. It was held in Long Beach, California from November 5th-6th. Just in their first year, they had massive headlining acts such as Skrillex and Snoop Dogg.
From creating and running the registration desk, to handling gate/ concert/ and panel line scanning, to helping exhibitor’s with lead retrieval, ShowClix’s team of five dedicated employees played a major role in the event’s success. Being the on-site Hardware Manager, I get to use firsthand all of the technology we implement throughout the event, which Reed’s incredible team effectively uses to ensure the event runs smoothly.
My favorite part of the convention, was walking through the show floor and seeing everyone’s excitement. Everywhere you looked, people were snapping pictures, holding bags of purchased merchandise, and partaking in all of the interactive exhibits. Seeing that makes all of the hard work, early mornings, and late nights worth it.
LEGO KidsFest Cleveland – Jim Rice
November 4th-6th marked the second to last tour stop for Lego KidsFest 2016 – this time in Cleveland, Ohio. The completely sold-out event was attended by Cleveland locals, as well as folks from the surrounding cities of Akron, Canton, Erie, and Cincinnati. We also saw a lot of friends visit from Pittsburgh as 2012 marked the last Lego KidsFest in our hometown.
As always, we supplied our ticket scanning and box office solution to the wonderful team provided by the show producers, BuzzEngine. Working with them is pretty much like working with our own staff.
Check out legokidsfest.com for tickets to the last tour stop for the year, Lego KidsFest Hartford.Â
SOFA Expo – Matt Soyka
Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to be on-site for the opening of SOFA (The Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design) Expo in Chicago. Galleries from all over the world had exhibits on display of contemporary works that ranged from wildly abstract to stunningly accessible. The whole event is beautifully assembled at the Navy Pier, which makes for a  perfect backdrop with stunning views of downtown Chicago – especially as the sun goes down.
While I wish I had more time to explore the works on display, I truly enjoyed every second spent with the staff at Navy Pier, and the wonderful people at Urban-Expo. Everyone I worked with was a veteran of SOFA Expo and it showed: this is a huge event with a million moving parts, and everyone knew what to do. It’s always refreshing to work with people that are great at what they do!
