Over the past week, our team has been working onsite at events across the country, from California to Texas to Tennessee and beyond. Read on and learn more about what we experienced at Stan Lee’s L.A. Comic Con, Tennessee’s annual Governor’s Conference, and the Tiny House & Simple Living Jamboree!
Stan Lee’s L.A. Comic Con – Christina Lee
Last weekend, I attended Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con for the first time to produce a photo shoot for ShowClix. Stan Lee’s L.A. Comic Con is Los Angeles’s first large-scale, multi-media pop culture convention held annually at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Produced in partnership with Stan Lee and Cassandra Peterson (otherwise known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark), the event has hosted over 700 artists and vendors over the past seven years.
This year’s L.A. Comic Con featured panels by Stan Lee, Drew Carey, Melissa Joan Hart, The Black Eyed Peas, and The Rock. In addition to stellar celebrity appearances, the cosplayers were impressive. A few of my favorite costumes included a group dressed as cyberpunk Star Wars characters and a baby Stormtrooper. It was an unforgettable comic convention, and if you have a spare moment, see if you can spot me on The Rock’s Instagram. I made it to his L.A. Comic Con Post!
Tennessee Governor’s Conference – David Kennedy
Our partners at the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) produce the state’s annual Governor’s Conference, and this year I was part of the onsite registration team. My primary role was processing onsite purchases and fulfilling badge orders for attendees, sponsors, vendors, and presenters who had registered in advance. We also provided RFID technology for scanning attendees into panels and breakout sessions, and a customized photo station tailored for the event.
Though typically occurring in Nashville, this year’s Conference took place in Gatlinburg in an effort to support the community after wildfires ripped through the area last fall. Speakers at the event included Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, former University of Tennessee football player Inky Johnson, and United States Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker. I had a great time working along with the rest of our onsite team, and I enjoyed having the chance to explore the beautiful Gatlinburg area!
Tiny House & Simple Living Jamboree – Jessica Merritt
I was excited to hit the road and head to Texas for the Tiny House Jamboree last weekend! I’ve seen a lot of DIY videos on the internet lately of people turning school buses into homes or living out of these 400 ft² rooms, so it was interesting to see some of these things up close. Last year, the event took place in Denver, CO, and made it’s way to Arlington, TX for this year.
Our team handled registration and access control for the weekend as visitors from all over traveled to see these beautiful, simple homes. Guests were scanned in as they entered and received their badges for the event. We also managed the inventory for a professional seminar and a lifestyle seminar which had a limited capacity.
Guests were excited to tour the tiny houses and transformed buses. Jamboree goers could also attend panels and lectures on all things related to simple living. Food trucks were parked outside for those who were hungry and wanted to enjoy the Texas weather. Overall, this event was unlike any other and I was really excited I got to experience it!
