ShowClix Fan Journal: Steel City Con

Our team traveled from our downtown office in Pittsburgh to the Monroeville Convention Center to experience one of hometown favorites, Steel City Con!

Covering every inch of the 100,000 square foot space, this is a con completely dedicated to all things comics, toys, and pop culture. For over 20 years, our partners at Orangestone Promotions, Inc. continue to provide thrilling experiences that wow attendees, and win the hearts of mega fans from across the area and beyond. With tons of vendors to check out, cosplay contests to see, and celebrity panels, there was something for every type of fandom.

Check out our team’s takes of the event and our favorite moments in the recaps below:

Christie Stapf – Marketing Specialist

This was the second time I attended Steel City Con, and let me tell you I had a blast! While my first time there was focused on shopping and attending panels, this time it was all about making friends with all of the cosplayers and chatting with celebrities like Bonnie Wright from Harry Potter and Mitch Pileggi from the X- Files one-on-one. I also satisfied my midseason finale blues of The Walking Dead by opting to purchase a few selfies with Josh McDermitt. All-in-all, this was another fantastic event, and I can’t wait to go again next year!

Ethan Tuxill – Client Support Representative

Steel City Con is an incredible example of the growing culture and excitement Pittsburgh has to offer. The team that puts on the event is professional, organized, and clearly enjoys the event just as much as the fans. It’s awesome to work with them! One of the things I love about this event is all the cosplayers that come out. Some of my favorites of the day were the Stormtroopers, Jack Sparrow, and Deadpool Santa. I also enjoyed taking a few minutes to check out all the different vendors offering exclusive LEGO figurines and handmade crafts in Artist Alley. Steel City Con is something I’ll be looking forward in the coming winter seasons.

Amy Mrazek – Senior Manager, Digital & Marketing Services

Steel City Con was awesome! I attended on Sunday which was the day they had cosplay costume contests. I got to see an 8-foot Count Chocula, the entire cast from Up, and even Yinzer Dinosaurs. The highlight of my day was when I got to take a selfie with Josh McDermitt – Eugene from The Walking Dead!
